The water temperature remains at 50 to 60 degrees centigrade all the year round, without much difference in winter and summer, hence exerting an obvious curative effect on a number of chronic and stubborn diseases such as arthritis, rheumatism and hypertension. Tangshan Hot-Spring was well-known as early as in the Southern and Northern Dynasties 1500 years ago. The spring water, which is so limpid as to reveal the bottom, is hot in four seasons。For its fame, princes and relatives of nobles as well as literati often came to take a bath, enjoying themselves so much as to forget to go home. Staying here for quite a few days, Yuan Mu, a famous poet in the Qing Dynasty, wrote a poem named “Taking a bath in Tangshan Mountain” handed down from generation to generation. Han Huang, a painter in the Tang Dynasty, said:“A bath in Tangshan Hot-Spring can quickly cure women with malicious diseases.” As a result, Yanxiang Temple with sacred hot water was built in honor of Spring Deity. Since then, people have all been venerating it as sacred water.
