淳溪老街坐落于高淳县城中心，至今已有900余年历史，现存建筑多为明清所建。老街因呈一字形，又称一字街，路面横铺胭脂石，两侧镶嵌青条石。街边房屋鳞次栉比，横向约每隔五组建筑，留有宽约2米的小巷，从巷口望去，曲折幽深，别有一番情趣。房屋大多是前店后宅，楼宇式双层砖木结构，挑檐斗拱，木排门板，镂花窗格，马头火墙，蝴蝶小瓦，典型的江南韵味，又糅进了徽派风格。

　　With a history of over 900 years, it is situated in the center of Gaochun county. Most of the existing buildings were constructed in the Ming dynasty and the Qing dynasty. It is also called Yizi street since it is in the form of "一". Horizontally laid with rouge pebbles, the street is flanked by inlaid greenish stone-slabs and houses in close rows. There is a small lane of about two meters wide between each five sets of horizontally extended buildings. Starting from its entrance, the lane winds forward serenely with a special appeal. Moat of the houses are characterized by the shop in the front and the residence in the rear, a brick-wood building of two stories, flying eaves, corbel brackets, wooden door-planks, window lattices with engraved patterns, cor－biesteps and small butterfly-shaped tiles, revealing typical charm in the south of the Yangtze River along with the architectural style of Anhui province.
