从栖霞寺南侧围墙外山路向东行不远，就可看到舍利塔，是南唐时所建。塔用白石砌成，五层八面，高约18米。塔基上浮雕释迦八相图和海石榴、鱼、龙、凤、花卉等图案；塔身刻有普贤骑象图、文殊菩萨像等。塔檐下雕飞天、乐天、供养人等像。第二层以上每面都刻两个圆拱形龛，均内雕一坐佛，共计64尊。全塔造型典雅、秀美，雕刻细腻、精湛，装饰华丽，为佛教艺术在江南的代表作。

　　Outside the southern wall of Qixia Temple, a mountain-path extending eastward leads to a nearby dagoba completed in the Southern Tang Dynasty. Built with white stones of about 18 meters high, it has five stories and eight facades. Its base is laid with such patterns as an eight-image picture of Sakyamuni, sea-pomegranates, fish, dragons, phoenixes and flowers in relief, while its body is carved with a picture of Pu Xian riding an elephant and a picture of Manjusri, etc. Such sculptures as flying apsarases, Letian and providers are seen right under its eaves. Each fa?ade above the second story is carved with two arched niches respectively inlaid with a seated Buddha, amounting to 64 in total. The entire dagoba is characterized by elegance, charm, meticulous carving, exquisiteness and magnificent decoration, making itself a representative of Buddhist art in southern areas of the Yangtze River.曹建新 译
